1. The Fall-unteer Program is a Quality Award Runner-Up

Holy Family Hospital’s Fall-unteer program is a runner-up in the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council’s 2019 Quality Awards! The program was recognized in the Excellence in Quality: Staying Healthy category, which celebrates an outstanding BC-based initiative that prevented injury, illness or disability.

The Fall-unteer program is a falls prevention strategy that uses non-medically-trained volunteers as added supervision to reduce falls in residential care in the evenings, when staff-to-resident ratio is reduced and there are fewer activities to keep residents supervised and engaged.

In the first year of the program, Holy Family Hospital had approximately 60% fewer falls during evening hours in areas where Fall-unteers were working, compared to the previous year.
