Exciting additions to our Long Service Awards program this year!
Submitted by Meaghen Ng, Communications Coordinator, Human Resources
We have a lot to celebrate this year at Providence Health Care! Looking back, 2019 marks the 125th anniversary of the founding Sisters opening St. Paul’s Hospital in 1894, and as we look ahead, the provincial government has officially confirmed its commitment to the new St. Paul’s that will see us through the next 125 years.
While we have changed a lot over the years, one thing remains constant: YOU – our staff, physicians and volunteers following in the visionary footsteps of the Sisters, selflessly giving your all in service to British Columbians. Our Long Service Recognition Awards formally recognize and celebrate your years of commitment and pay tribute to the legacy that started it all.
As we prepare to celebrate our dedicated individuals who reached service milestones in 2018, we’re excited to announce some additions to this year’s program and site recognition events beginning in April.
Celebrate our Visionary Plans for the Future
At the end of each of the Long Service celebrations at Brock Fahrni, Honoria Conway, St. John Hospice and Youville Residence, we will also share our new PHC strategic directions that will guide our work over the next seven years. Please stay to hear about the new Strategic Plan and the goals created from your feedback – and input from people from across PHC – shared over the past five months.
As with last year, you do not need to RSVP to site specific celebrations. All are welcome to attend, but please speak with your supervisor, leader or manager if you will be attending while on shift. For the full schedule of recognition events, please click here.
Long Service Awards Packages
As part of our effort to reduce paper, Long Service Awards packages including instructions on how to order a gift (for staff who reached a 10+ year milestone), were emailed to this year’s recipients on February 25. If you are one of our Long Service recipients and did not receive an email with your package, please email LongServiceAwards@providencehealth.bc.ca by March 31 so that we can ensure you are an eligible recipient and that we have your correct work email address.
PHC Awards Night and Gala Dinner
On May 24, we’re thrilled to once again host our annual gala dinner honouring recipients celebrating 25+ years with us. Invitations to the gala event will be sent by email next month to our 25+ year recipients, and RSVP will also be online via Eventbrite.
New for this year’s celebration, in addition to honouring our longest serving staff, physicians and volunteers, we will also be recognizing our exceptional people through the presentation of several awards: the 2019 Faye Meuser Memorial Leadership Award; the “Best” Patient Safety and Quality Award; the Research and Mission Award; Mission Awards for an individual and a team; and, the Keeping the Promise Award. This inaugural PHC Awards Night will showcase what we are best known for – our amazing and dedicated people who live the Mission, Vision and Values that we were founded on more than a century ago and which continue to pave the way for world-class teaching, research and compassionate care.
Join us this year as we celebrate our long-serving staff and reflect on the past 125 years to inspire the next 125 years because an anniversary provides us all with an opportune moment to recommit to what should never change: our Mission, Vision, and Values.
