Apr 27, 2016 | News

Health promotion encompasses healthy living, physical and mental wellbeing and is a key priority under the People strategy. Healthy staff result in better quality patient and resident experience.

1 in 5 Canadians will have a mental illness this year. Only 1/3 of those facing mental health challenges will access help. Mental Health is everyone’s business, so let’s have the conversation and let’s talk about it. (from Notmyselftoday.ca-partners for mental health).

Next week is the Canadian Mental Health Association’s 65th annual, Mental Health Week campaign. Their “Get Loud” campaign asks you to speak up and talk openly about mental health and mental wellness, be informed and be supportive. Stigma and a lack of understanding account for a big part of the problem. So let’s talk about it, let’s have the conversation at PHC. Mental health is just as important as physical health so let’s talk about it openly.

On Wednesday, May 4 from 11:00am-1:00pm in the MSJ cafeteria and on Friday, May 6 from 10:30am - 2:00pm outside the SPH cafeteria, OH&S will have a booth with information on mental health and mental wellness, resources and fun games and chances to win prizes as we talk about this important health issue. Please stop by to have a chat, pick up some information or spin the wheel for your chance to win a prize.

Be sure to check the PHC news next week for the Mental Health and Wellness Quiz and your chance to win a prize if you submit the completed quiz.
