Vacation planning for 2019 begins in October – here’s what you need to know
Submitted by Tammy Young, Director, Human Resources
Is 2019 your year to finally make some checks off that well-curated bucket list? From the Great Wall to the Great Barrier Reef or maybe you’re not sure where to go next. It’s a good idea to start talking to your loved ones and friends about when that family reunion, wedding or school break will take place next year as vacation planning for 2019 begins in October.
In keeping with years past, Staff Scheduling continues its efforts to improve the vacation planning process. The Vacation Planning Request Form has been updated along with the Vacation Planning Guide that outlines PHC’s vacation planning process from beginning to end.
Use the Vacation Planning Request form to submit your first, second, and third vacation requests during annual vacation planning from October to December. The Scheduling Change Request form has also been improved; use this form to submit vacation requests after December and for other leave requests (LOA, time owing, etc.). As we prepare for the coming year, please take a moment to review the updated forms and the PHC Vacation Planning Guide.
We recognize that the 24/7 nature in which we work takes its toll on our staff. You deserve your well-earned time off, and our goal is to make every effort to grant you your preferred choice in accordance with your collective agreement and PHC vacation guidelines while adhering to our timelines and operational constraints. If we can effectively plan for known vacancies, it will better equip us to deal with the unknown that contribute to workload issues for all staff. By planning in advance, you help us provide adequate staffing levels during peak and non-peak vacation periods. So, please start thinking about what your time off will look like next year.
The Vacation Planning and Scheduling Change Request forms can be found on PHC Connect under: Human Resources > Staff Scheduling > Scheduling Forms.
The PHC Vacation Planning Guide for Unionized Staff can also be found on PHC Connect under: Human Resources > Staff Scheduling > Vacation Guidelines.
